"Ghostface Arrives in Mortal Kombat 1: Fans Get a First Look at Chilling Moveset"
While Ghostface won’t officially join Mortal Kombat 1 until next month, NetherRealm Studios has just released an enticing sneak peek at the famed horror character’s fighting style. A short gameplay trailer, shared by series co-creator Ed Boon on X (formerly Twitter), showcases Ghostface taking on Johnny Cage in a matchup that brings the eerie essence of Scream into the Mortal Kombat arena. Notably, the character retains the iconic voice provided by actor Roger L. Jackson, who has voiced Ghostface since the original Scream film. The teaser even treats fans to a rendition of Ghostface’s most infamous line, further setting the tone for a horrifying new Kombatant.
The trailer pays homage to the Scream franchise in multiple ways. It opens with Ghostface wielding a voice changer, a trademark tool the killers use to mask their identity and create an aura of mystery. At one point, Johnny Cage is ambushed by a second Ghostface—a nod to the Scream series' recurring theme of multiple killers working in tandem. Although Ghostface’s full moveset hasn’t been revealed yet, the teaser suggests a combat style focused on swift, stabbing attacks. By the end of the video, viewers are treated to brutal finishing moves, proving Ghostface will be a fierce addition for Mortal Kombat fans and horror aficionados alike.
While today's trailer aligns perfectly with the Halloween season, Ghostface won’t be available in Mortal Kombat 1 until November 19 for early-access players who purchased the Khaos Reigns expansion, which launched in late September. Those who prefer to buy Ghostface individually without the expansion can do so on November 26. Initially, fans speculated Ghostface might be a Halloween surprise, but this glimpse at his character is all they’ll get for now.
In addition to Ghostface, the Khaos Reigns expansion has already introduced fighters Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. Two more guest fighters are slated for release soon: Conan the Barbarian and T-1000. Robert Patrick will return to voice T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and while developer Ed Boon has expressed interest in bringing Arnold Schwarzenegger on board for Conan, an official confirmation has yet to come.
