Birmingham Phoenix Secure Eliminator Spot with Convincing Win Over Manchester Originals

Birmingham Phoenix secured their place in the Eliminator of The Hundred men's competition with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Manchester Originals at Edgbaston. The match, shortened to 30 balls per side due to rain, saw Phoenix chase down a modest target of 42 with eight balls to spare.

Manchester Originals struggled throughout their innings, managing only 41-5. Max Holden was the top scorer for the Originals with 15, while Phil Salt contributed 12. The Originals failed to build momentum, with New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne leading Phoenix’s attack with impressive figures of 2-8. Milne’s early breakthrough, dismissing opener Matty Hurst from the second ball, set the tone for a dominant bowling performance.

In response, Phoenix’s chase was led by England Test opener Ben Duckett, who remained unbeaten on 22 from 12 balls. Jamie Smith was the only Phoenix wicket to fall, scoring 14 off 7 balls. Captain Moeen Ali capped off the game with a six, guiding Phoenix to victory and ensuring their place in the Eliminator against Southern Brave on Saturday.

Despite the rain, Duckett and Smith batted fluently, contrasting sharply with the Originals' difficulties in adapting to the shortened format. Phoenix’s successful run chase was crucial, as a loss would have seen Northern Superchargers leapfrog them into the Eliminator spot.

At the end of the group stage, Oval Invincibles topped the table to secure their automatic place in the final, setting up an exciting conclusion to The Hundred’s men’s competition.
