Everton Striker Beto Embraces Criticism as Motivation

Everton striker Beto has revealed that he thrives on criticism and uses it as fuel to prove his detractors wrong. The 26-year-old Portuguese forward, who joined the Toffees from Udinese for £25 million last summer, admits that his first season in England was challenging, but he remains determined to succeed.

Beto made an impressive debut for Everton, scoring against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup last August. However, he only managed to find the back of the net four more times throughout the season. Despite the difficulties, Beto remains unfazed by criticism and sees it as a crucial part of his motivation.

"We need to understand one thing: football is simple," Beto told BBC Sport when asked about his response to social media criticism. "We play football in our lives, and they are working like eight- or 12-hour shifts and they come. Not everybody in this life is going to love you and not everybody in this life is going to hate you. In this sports life, for me, it's OK."

Beto acknowledges that reading negative comments can be tough, but he uses them to push himself harder in training and on the field. "Sometimes I like to read my comments when I played badly or missed chances. They will say 'Beto is [expletive] with missing chances'. But I like it because I say 'OK, I will make this guy shut his mouth.'"

He adds, "I take it personal too. When I'm in training the next week or the next day, I remember it and I say 'No, this guy is not going to say this about me anymore' and I keep going."

Beto's attitude reflects a resilient and determined mindset as he prepares for his second season with Everton. With his sights set on improving his performance and silencing his critics, the striker hopes to make a significant impact for the Toffees in the upcoming campaign.
