Aston Villa's Moussa Diaby Set for €60m Move to Al-Ittihad

Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby is on the brink of completing a transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad for a fee of approximately 60 million euros (£50.4 million). The 25-year-old French international has traveled to Saudi Arabia to undergo a medical and finalize the deal, marking the end of his brief tenure at Villa Park.

Diaby joined Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a club-record fee of around £51.9 million. Despite his significant contribution to the team, manager Unai Emery has opted to cash in on the talented winger after just one season. During his time at Villa, Diaby made 54 appearances and scored 10 goals, playing a crucial role in helping the club secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and a coveted spot in the Champions League.

The decision to sell Diaby comes as part of Villa's ongoing squad reshaping efforts ahead of the new season. The club recently re-signed Jaden Philogene from Hull City for approximately £13.5 million, believing the academy graduate can have a substantial impact on his return to the team.

In addition to Diaby's impending departure, Aston Villa has been active in the transfer market, making several significant moves. Last month, the club sold midfielder Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million. The funds from this sale have facilitated the acquisition of new talent, including Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, left-back Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £35 million, and winger Lewis Dobbin from Everton for around £9 million. Most recently, Villa completed the £50 million signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

As Aston Villa continues to rebuild and strengthen its squad, the departure of Moussa Diaby marks a notable change in the team's lineup. The move to Al-Ittihad represents a new chapter for Diaby, who will be looking to make his mark in the Saudi Pro League.
