Pep Guardiola Confirms Kevin de Bruyne's Stay at Manchester City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has put an end to speculation about Kevin de Bruyne's future, affirming that the influential midfielder will remain with the club. Despite rumors of a potential summer move to Saudi Arabia, Guardiola assured reporters that De Bruyne is not going anywhere.
With one year left on his contract, De Bruyne had previously mentioned he would consider an offer from the Saudi Pro League due to the "incredible money" on offer. However, Guardiola dismissed concerns, stating, "Kevin isn’t leaving."
Speaking before City's opening pre-season game against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Guardiola praised De Bruyne's contribution to the team's success. Last season, De Bruyne played a pivotal role in securing the Premier League title for City, their fourth consecutive and his sixth overall at the club.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around other City players. Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, a member of England's Euro 2024 squad, has been linked with a move to the Etihad, and Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia. However, Guardiola suggested that significant changes to the squad are unlikely.
"If someone leaves, we are going to talk about that and, of course, until the last day [of the transfer window] we have chances," Guardiola said. "I don’t rule out new players as an option, but I think there is an 85, 90, 95% chance we will have the same squad."
As City prepare for the new season, they will look to defend their Premier League title, beginning with a match against Chelsea on August 18. With De Bruyne confirmed to stay, Guardiola's squad retains one of its most critical assets in their quest for continued dominance.
