England Crush Ireland by 275 Runs in Second ODI

Tammy Beaumont’s unbeaten 150 steered England to a record-breaking 275-run victory over Ireland in the second one-day international at Belfast's Stormont ground, sealing a series win with one game to spare.

England set an imposing total of 320-8 in their 50 overs, driven by Beaumont’s scintillating knock, her 10th ODI century, which makes her the leading century-maker for England. The opener’s innings was supported by a powerful 65 from Freya Kemp, who showed her aggressive batting prowess.

Ireland’s response was a dramatic collapse, with the hosts bowled out for just 45, their lowest-ever ODI total. The Irish top-order crumbled to 8-4 within the fourth over, facing a relentless England bowling attack. Only Una Raymond-Hoey offered any resistance, scoring 22 from 37 balls as the rest of the lineup fell apart.

England’s bowlers were exceptional. Kate Cross, continuing her fine form from the series opener, took 3-8, complementing her career-best 6-30 performance from Saturday. Lauren Filer also played a crucial role, claiming 3-10 with her pace proving too much for the Irish batters. Georgia Davis made a notable debut, taking 2-19, and Kemp added two more wickets, as Ireland managed just three boundaries throughout their innings.

Beaumont’s innings was a display of determination and skill. After a slow start, she accelerated to reach her century and then raced to 150 in just 22 balls, with seven fours and two sixes punctuating her innings. Her partnership with Kemp, who scored her first ODI fifty from just 37 balls, was pivotal, adding 101 runs for the fourth wicket.

Despite Ireland’s dismal performance, they had shown promise in the first ODI with a total of 210. However, their inability to cope with England’s bowlers, particularly the early dismissals of captain Gaby Lewis and all-rounder Orla Prendergast, highlighted their struggle. Young talent Amy Hunter also fell early, adding to Ireland’s woes.

With the series already secured, the third ODI will be played at the same venue on Wednesday, followed by a T20 series in Clontarf, Dublin. England’s dominant performance underscores their strength, while Ireland will need to regroup and address their batting issues before the final match.
