Trailfinders Women's Director of Rugby Giselle Mather Departs Club
Giselle Mather has left her role as Trailfinders Women’s director of rugby by mutual consent following a difference in philosophy. Mather, a former England international and World Cup winner, was instrumental in guiding Trailfinders Women into Premiership Women’s Rugby last season and building a competitive squad.
Taking on the role in July 2022, Mather led the team to a commendable sixth-place finish in their inaugural season in the top tier during 2023-24. Her tenure saw the establishment of a strong foundation for the club’s future success.
In a statement on the club's website, Mather expressed her pride in her achievements with Trailfinders. “Building an elite Premiership side from scratch has been an incredible project, and leading it has been an honour,” she said. “Due to a difference in philosophy for our second season, we have reached a mutual decision to part ways. I would like to acknowledge the huge privilege it has been to work with the amazing and talented athletes and committed staff at the club.”
Trailfinders managing director Ben Ward thanked Mather for her hard work and contributions. “Our style of rugby represents the Trailfinders way and has been enjoyable to watch,” Ward noted. “She is written into the history books at Ealing Trailfinders and Trailfinders Women. We wish Giselle the best for the future.”
Mather’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for Trailfinders Women as they prepare for their upcoming season. The team’s 2024-25 campaign begins with an away match against Saracens on Saturday, October 5.
