Scotland Women Poised for Continued Growth, Says Forwards Coach Fraser Brown
Scotland Women are on an upward trajectory, but must remain vigilant to sustain their progress, according to forwards coach Fraser Brown.
Under the guidance of head coach Bryan Easson, Scotland Women have experienced a notable surge in form, achieving seven consecutive Test victories from 2023 into 2024, including an unbeaten campaign in WXV2. Their recent Six Nations performance saw them finish fourth, securing wins over Wales and Italy, and coming close to a higher position with a narrow loss to Ireland. Their competitive display against France highlighted how they have narrowed the gap to the top teams in international rugby.
Brown, who retired from playing earlier this year, has been impressed by the progress since joining Easson’s coaching team four weeks ago. Despite initial adjustments, the former international has praised the squad's responsiveness and work ethic.
"I’ve been a player for a long time and have done some coaching, including in the women’s game, but stepping into a new environment is always a fresh challenge," said the 35-year-old. "Week one was quite different from what I’m used to, but the past few weeks have been fantastic. The players have been exceptional—receptive, hard-working, and talented."
Brown has noted the squad’s impressive adaptability and enthusiasm for new concepts introduced in training. "We've got some really good athletes and skilled players, and more importantly, we have individuals who are dedicated and hardworking. The players have quickly embraced new ideas and started to take ownership of them."
With Scotland Women showing clear signs of progress, maintaining focus and commitment will be key as they look to build on their recent successes and continue their development on the international stage.
