Saffie Osborne Clinches Third Straight Racing League Title with Southwell Treble

Saffie Osborne once again demonstrated her prowess in the Racing League, securing her third consecutive top jockey trophy with a stunning treble at Southwell on the final night of the competition. The 21-year-old jockey, who has become a dominant force in the series, delivered another standout performance that ensured she held onto her crown.

Osborne's journey to this year’s title was far from straightforward. Despite entering the final week of the six-week competition at the top of the jockeys’ table, she faced fierce competition. However, she proved her mettle early on, laying down a marker with victories in the first two races of the night.

Her first success came aboard Ian Williams’ Dancing In Paris, followed by a win with Noodle Mission, trained by Edward Smyth-Osbourne. She then capped off her night with a hard-fought victory on Ed Walker’s Fantasy Believer, sealing the top spot before the evening's final race. Despite the best efforts of her rivals, Billy Loughnane and Daniel Muscutt, neither could overcome Osborne's lead, allowing her to celebrate another triumph with her family.

Reflecting on her achievement, Osborne remarked: “I thought all my rides tonight had nice chances without being certainties. I knew I’d need something special given the competition from Danny and Billy, so I’m just lucky it all fell into place.”

The Racing League has played a significant role in Osborne’s rise through the ranks, helping her build connections with a range of trainers. “The Racing League has been brilliant for me," she said. "As an apprentice, I got to ride for trainers I wouldn’t normally have, and that’s helped me build lasting relationships. This competition has done a lot for me, and I’m eternally grateful.”

Osborne also praised the Racing League’s format and its impact on the sport, highlighting the opportunity it provides for jockeys and trainers alike. “For this competition to be on ITV every week is brilliant. It brings great prize money to meetings that wouldn’t normally have it for that grade of horse.”

For Osborne’s father, Jamie, who manages the Wales & The West region in the Racing League, the victory was particularly sweet. “I’m thrilled for Saffie,” he said. “She’s had an outstanding season, and it’s great to see all her hard work pay off. I joke about it, but I do put everything into helping her succeed, and I’m grateful to all the trainers who have supported her.”

With the Racing League now over for another year, Saffie Osborne can look back on a remarkable achievement, having established herself as one of the brightest talents in British racing. Her Southwell treble not only secured her third straight title but also underscored her status as a jockey to watch in the years to come.
