Maro Itoje Named Saracens Captain for New Premiership Season
England forward Maro Itoje has been appointed captain of Saracens ahead of the new Premiership season. The 29-year-old second rower takes over from Owen Farrell, who has moved to Racing 92 in France after a distinguished 16-year tenure with the north London club.
Itoje, who made his debut for Saracens in 2013, brings a wealth of experience to the captaincy, having earned 84 caps for England. His leadership role marks a new chapter for the club as they prepare for the upcoming season.
"I am extremely humbled and honoured to be asked to captain this special club," Itoje said on the Saracens website. "I love this club and I feel that we are in a very exciting place with the talent and the people here, the energy we have, and the direction we are going."
Saracens, who finished fourth in the Premiership last season, will kick off their campaign with an away match against Gloucester on September 21. The appointment of Itoje is seen as a strategic move to build on the club's strong foundation and aim for success in the new season.
