Katie Boulter and Coco Gauff Eliminated from Canadian Open

British number one Katie Boulter was defeated in straight sets by Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the Canadian Open. The second-seeded Sabalenka from Belarus secured a 6-3 6-3 victory over Boulter in just one hour and 23 minutes. Despite the loss, Boulter's performance was notable as she created four break points but was unable to convert any.

The 28-year-old Boulter, who reached the women's doubles quarter-finals at the Olympic Games, will use the Cincinnati Open as her final warm-up before the US Open begins in two weeks.

In another shock result, American top seed Coco Gauff was unexpectedly knocked out of the Toronto event by Russia’s Diana Shnaider. Gauff, the defending US Open champion, lost 6-4 6-1 in just 70 minutes. Gauff admitted that she struggled both physically and mentally during the match.

"Sometimes I question whether I should have played or not," Gauff said. "But at the end of the day, I wanted to test myself and see how I would do being mentally tired and physically fatigued."

Gauff acknowledged her performance fell short of her expectations, stating, "I didn't have high expectations, but I wish I could have competed better, even if it resulted in a loss. I don’t think I competed well."

Both Boulter and Gauff will look to regroup and find their form as they prepare for the upcoming US Open.
