Hayley Turner Leads All-Female Team to Victory at Shergar Cup
Hayley Turner delivered a stellar performance to lead the Ladies team to victory in the Shergar Cup at Ascot. Turner, alongside Rachel Venniker and Jo Mason, helped secure a win against the European, Rest of the World, and Great Britain and Ireland teams.
Turner capped off a remarkable day by winning the final mile handicap aboard New Image, narrowly edging out team-mate Mason, who rode Yantarni. This triumph marks the fourth time in six years that an all-female team has claimed the Shergar Cup trophy, and the sixth instance since 2015 that a woman has won the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle award for top jockey.
Turner, who also triumphed on Ranch Hand in the opening race, highlighted the importance of the horses in achieving success. "I think it helps that the trainers don't get to choose if I ride their horses or not," she said. "I do end up with better rides than what I'd usually get and it just goes to show it's the animals that get you there and not just the jockeys."
Celebrations are set to continue as Turner, surrounded by her family, prepares for a well-deserved victory celebration.
