Antony Cleared in Brazil but Remains Under Investigation in UK

A Brazilian police investigation into domestic abuse allegations against Manchester United winger Antony has concluded without charges, though the case could still see further scrutiny.

The 24-year-old, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, is not facing charges in Brazil. However, he remains under investigation by Greater Manchester Police in the UK, where similar allegations are being examined.

Antony's legal team released a statement confirming that the investigation by Sao Paulo's fifth Women's Defense Precinct had been closed without police indictment. The statement emphasized the defense's belief in Antony's innocence, asserting that the confidential nature of the investigation would ultimately prove his case.

Despite the closure of the Brazilian investigation, officials have indicated that the prosecutor's office is still reviewing the case. This means that an independent investigation could potentially be initiated by the prosecutors.

The allegations against Antony emerged in September 2023, with accusations from his ex-partner Gabriela Cavallin, as well as additional claims from Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, all of which he denies. One of these allegations was linked to an incident at a Manchester hotel, prompting an investigation by Greater Manchester Police.

Manchester United took the allegations seriously and granted Antony leave with full pay on September 10, 2023, allowing him to address the matter. He resumed training on September 29 and returned to playing in early October. Despite his return, manager Erik ten Hag noted in January that the situation had impacted Antony's form.

Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax for £82 million in September 2022, making him the club's second-most expensive signing. The ongoing investigation in the UK continues to cast a shadow over his career, with the possibility of further legal action remaining.
