Southern Brave Secure Dominant Victory Over London Spirit in The Hundred Opener

Southampton, England – Southern Brave began their season in The Hundred men's competition with a commanding seven-wicket win over London Spirit at the Utilita Bowl.

Opting to bat first, the Spirit faced early setbacks, finding themselves at 49-5 after 48 balls, largely due to the impressive bowling of former England international Craig Overton, who claimed three early wickets and finished with figures of 3-16.

Despite the early collapse, Dan Lawrence's 38 runs provided some stability, while Liam Dawson's explosive unbeaten 45 off just 19 balls helped the Spirit post a total of 138-9 in their allotted 100 balls.

In response, Southern Brave's openers set the tone for the chase with a blistering start. Captain James Vince and Dan Hughes combined for a 95-run partnership for the first wicket. Vince scored a swift 56 off 35 balls before being bowled by his counterpart, Dan Lawrence.

By the time Vince departed, Southern Brave needed only 22 runs from 28 balls to secure victory. The hosts reached their target comfortably, with 11 balls to spare, thanks to a steady finish by their middle order.

Southern Brave's victory by seven wickets marks a strong start to their campaign in The Hundred, showcasing a balanced team effort with both bat and ball.

  • Southern Brave 139-3 (89 balls): Vince 56 (35), Hughes 45; Lawrence 1-13
