Lamine Yamal made history with his goal against France

Lamine Yamal made history by becoming the youngest player to score in a men’s European Championship, as Spain narrowly defeated France 2-1 to secure a spot in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final.

France struck early, with Randal Kolo Muani heading in from a Kylian Mbappé cross within the first 10 minutes. However, Spain quickly equalized thanks to a stunning long-range goal from 16-year-old Yamal. Shortly after, Dani Olmo delivered a brilliant strike of his own, giving Spain a lead they defended resolutely until the final whistle.

This victory also marks a milestone for Spain, making them the first team to win six consecutive matches in a single European Championship tournament.

Luis de la Fuente’s squad will face either the Netherlands or England, who play on Wednesday, in the final as Spain aims for their fourth Euros title.

Yamal, who was named man of the match for his outstanding performance, will celebrate his 17th birthday the day before the final. He expressed his excitement and determination to remain in Germany for the big day.

"We were a goal down, and I just took the ball, didn't think much, and shot towards the goal," Yamal told AFP. "We are very, very close. [We’re] filled with happiness. This team is unbelievable. We deserve it. One step away from glory."

"My ambition was to be champion of Europe - but it was a failure."
