James Anderson joins the England coaching staff as a bowling consultant

Thursday's second Test against the West Indies at Trent Bridge will mark the first time since 2012 that England will play a home game without either James Anderson or Stuart Broad.

“There was always going to be a time when this moment would come for English cricket,” Stokes told BBC Sport. “Opportunities will arise for players throughout the summer and over the next 18 months to two years.”

Chris Woakes, playing in his 50th Test, will take on the role of leading the attack and will share the new ball with Gus Atkinson.

Surrey's Atkinson, who had an impressive debut taking 12 wickets in the first Test victory at Lord’s, will be a key player.

Mark Wood has been recalled to replace Anderson, and he, alongside Atkinson, forms one of England’s fastest bowling pairs since Wood and Olly Stone played against New Zealand in 2021.
