Spanish Football Unites in Support as Real Madrid Pledges €1 Million for Flood Relief Amid Match Postponements

In a show of solidarity, Spain’s professional football league has expressed condolences and support for the families affected by recent tragic events. “Spain’s professional football joins the condolences and expresses its solidarity with the families of the victims and the missing,” La Liga announced on Thursday.

Real Madrid has also stepped up, partnering with the Red Cross and pledging a donation of one million euros (1.09 million USD) to aid the relief efforts. “The Real Madrid Foundation and the Red Cross have launched a fundraising campaign to support those affected by the storm. The club has decided to contribute one million euros to assist the many families who are in critical need of support and solidarity,” the club stated.

In light of the circumstances, the Spanish Football Association (FA) has postponed seven midweek Copa del Rey matches and all games scheduled for the Valencian region this weekend. It has also requested that competition organizers observe a minute’s silence before matches to honor the victims.

Of the postponed Copa del Rey fixtures, six have been rescheduled for the following week. However, the match between Real Sociedad and Jove Espanyol in Alicante remains without a confirmed date. La Liga has asked the 10 affected clubs in the top two divisions to propose new dates by next Tuesday.

Among the postponed matches are Valencia’s home game against Real Madrid and Villarreal’s fixture against Rayo Vallecano. In response, Valencia has made the Mestalla Stadium available as a collection point for donations of food and essential items.
