Raducanu Triumphs Over Yuan to Secure Korea Open Quarter-Final Spot

Emma Raducanu has surged into the quarter-finals of the Korea Open with a dominant straight-sets victory over China's Yue Yuan, showcasing the composure and tenacity that made her a Grand Slam champion. Raducanu, 21, took charge of the match with a blistering six-game streak to claim the opening set 6-4, before closing out the second set 6-3 in Seoul.

Ranked 70th in the world, the 2021 US Open champion faced an early challenge from Yue, who rallied from a break down to level the opening set at 3-3. But Raducanu wrestled back control, breaking her opponent’s serve in the ninth game before sealing the first set on her first set point.

Momentum firmly on her side, Raducanu quickly opened up a 3-0 lead in the second set with two breaks of serve, sandwiching a love hold, as her aggressive baseline play unsettled the world number 40. Yue showed resilience, narrowing the gap to 3-2 and pushing Raducanu to save a break point in a crucial sixth game, but the British star refused to yield.

Raducanu’s path to victory, however, wasn’t without late drama. After breaking Yue for a third time in the set, Raducanu saw five match points slip through her fingers during an extended eighth game. Yue broke back on her fourth attempt, injecting fresh tension into the match. Yet, Raducanu maintained her cool, breaking the Chinese player once more to seal a gritty 6-4 6-3 win.

Looking ahead to her quarter-final clash against top seed Daria Kasatkina, Raducanu remains undaunted. "I think these courts suit [Kasatkina] because they bounce quite a bit," Raducanu commented. "But for me, every time I get exposure to that top level of opponent, it's invaluable. It's a match where I don’t really have anything to lose."

With this victory, Raducanu continues her quest for her first WTA title since her sensational US Open triumph, gaining confidence with every hard-fought match.
