West Ham Sign Germany Striker Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for £27m
West Ham United have bolstered their attacking options by signing Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for £27 million. The 31-year-old joins the Hammers on a four-year deal, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven goal-scoring record to the London Stadium.
Fullkrug’s Impressive Track Record
Fullkrug enjoyed a successful stint with Dortmund, scoring 15 goals in 46 games during the 2023-24 season and helping the team to a Champions League runner-up finish. His international performances were also notable, as he netted twice in Germany's run to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals despite not starting any matches.
Fullkrug's Enthusiasm for the Premier League
"I'm delighted to be here, and I can't wait to get out on the pitch with my new team-mates," Fullkrug said in his first interview as a West Ham player. "I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and for me, it is the right time to move over to England and play for a big club like West Ham. I've been thinking about West Ham for a long time now—I know the technical director Tim Steidten very well because we have history at Werder Bremen together, and I have watched some games and seen how much quality there is in the team."
Strategic Summer Signings
Fullkrug is the fifth signing made by new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui this summer. The club has been active in the transfer market, securing former Wolves captain Max Kilman for £40 million, Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville from Leeds for over £25 million, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham from Sheffield United, and Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme for £25.5 million from Palmeiras.
Ambitions and Future Targets
West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League last season and are aiming to build on that success. The club's aggressive recruitment strategy indicates their ambition to climb higher in the league standings. In addition to Fullkrug, the Hammers are also reportedly interested in a deal for Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, signaling their intent to strengthen the squad further.
Looking Ahead
As Fullkrug prepares to make his Premier League debut, West Ham fans will be eagerly anticipating how the experienced striker will enhance their attacking prowess. With Lopetegui at the helm and a series of strategic signings, the Hammers are setting the stage for a potentially exciting season ahead.
