Southern Brave Dominate Manchester Originals in Emphatic Seven-Wicket Victory
At the Utilita Bowl in Southampton, Southern Brave showcased a disciplined bowling performance to secure a commanding seven-wicket victory over Manchester Originals in The Hundred men's competition.
Manchester Originals struggled to build momentum after losing skipper Phil Salt for seven early on. Their top order faltered, managing just three boundaries in the first 50 balls, as they crawled to 41-4. Craig Overton spearheaded the Brave’s attack with a miserly spell, taking 2-11, while Akeal Hosein's tight bowling further restricted the Originals.
Wayne Madsen provided some resistance for the Originals, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 37 balls. However, Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan claimed two wickets each, ensuring the Originals could only muster a total of 116-6 in their 100 balls.
In response, Southern Brave started aggressively. Alex Davies bludgeoned 24 off just 12 balls, giving the Brave an explosive start before falling to spinner Tom Hartley. Contributions from James Vince (20) and Leus du Plooy (21) kept the innings steady. Laurie Evans then ensured a smooth finish with a quickfire unbeaten 25, guiding the Brave to victory with 22 balls to spare.
Notably absent was Brave's fast bowler Jofra Archer, who was instructed to rest by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The win propels Southern Brave up the standings, showcasing their depth and discipline, while Manchester Originals will need to reassess and regroup as the competition progresses.
