Somerset Reach One-Day Cup Final with 23-Run Victory Over Leicestershire

Somerset have secured their place in the One-Day Cup final after a gripping semi-final clash at Taunton, overcoming defending champions Leicestershire by 23 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Set a formidable target of 335, Leicestershire’s pursuit fell short despite a valiant effort. Somerset, batting first, posted a commanding 334-4, driven by an unbeaten 115 from Lewis Goldsworthy and solid contributions from James Rew (71) and Umeed (57). The impressive performance ensured a strong total as Somerset took full advantage of their innings.

Leicestershire's chase was led by Australian Peter Handscomb, who scored a determined 111. However, the run chase faced mounting pressure as Handscomb’s departure left the Foxes struggling to keep up with the required rate. Somerset's bowlers, including Green (3-63), Aldridge (2-41), and Davey (2-54), played crucial roles in dismissing key batters and maintaining the pressure.

Despite a valiant late push from Cox (49) and Holland (40), Leicestershire’s innings ended at 311-9, falling short of the target. Somerset’s disciplined bowling and fielding efforts ensured their place in the final.

The victory sets up a thrilling final against Glamorgan, the 2021 winners, scheduled for Sunday, 22 September at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Somerset, who last won the 50-over final at Lord’s in 2019 before the competition's temporary downgrade, will be aiming to add another title to their illustrious history.
