Rodgers Praises Revitalized Hatate as Celtic Begin Title Defence with Commanding Victory
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers lauded Reo Hatate as a "different animal" following the team's emphatic start to their Scottish Premiership title defence, dispatching Kilmarnock with a 4-0 victory.
The Japanese midfielder, plagued by injuries last season, appeared rejuvenated and unleashed an early strike that set the tone for the reigning champions. This impressive win placed Celtic at the summit of the table after the opening weekend.
Celebrations began with the unfurling of the title flag amidst a spectacular display of fireworks, setting a festive mood at Celtic Park. The team rose to the occasion with additional goals from Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn, and Anthony Ralston, who found the net for the first time in over two years.
Under former manager Ange Postecoglou, Hatate was instrumental in Celtic's success. However, the 26-year-old struggled to replicate that form following Rodgers' appointment.
"I've got to be honest, the player I've seen over the course of pre-season is the player I expected to see last season," Rodgers admitted. "He never really got to the level he wanted to consistently last season. Now I'm seeing a different animal."
Rodgers continued, praising Hatate's renewed mentality and focus. "His quality on the field is evident. He's shown he can compete against tougher opponents and play at a high level. He's an outstanding footballer and will be very important for us this season."
Celtic fans will be encouraged by Hatate's resurgence as the team embarks on another challenging campaign, aiming to secure their dominance in Scottish football under Rodgers' leadership.
