Northern Superchargers Dominate as Birmingham Phoenix Set New Low in The Hundred

Birmingham Phoenix crumbled to the lowest total in The Hundred's history, succumbing to a comprehensive 61-run defeat at the hands of Northern Superchargers in a disappointing display at Edgbaston.

Chasing a modest target of 116 set by the Superchargers, Phoenix were bowled out for just 54 runs in 86 balls, marking a new low in the competition. This total eclipsed the previous record for the lowest score, 64, set by the Oval Invincibles against the Superchargers only a few days prior.

The Phoenix's innings was the third shortest in the history of The Hundred's women's competition, as they struggled to form any significant partnerships. Opener Sophie Devine managed 20 off 25 balls, and Seren Smale contributed 16 off 20, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double figures, with no other player making it past seven runs.

The Superchargers' spinners Linsey Smith and Georgia Wareham were the stars with the ball, both delivering impressive figures of 3-12, dismantling the Phoenix batting order with precision and control.

Earlier, Northern Superchargers posted a total of 115-5 in their 100 balls, with Alice Davidson-Richards anchoring the innings with a crucial 49 off 42 balls. Ellyse Perry was the standout bowler for Phoenix, taking 2-13 in a commendable effort to restrict the Superchargers to a manageable score.

However, the Phoenix batting lineup could not capitalize on the bowlers' efforts, collapsing in dramatic fashion and ensuring a comfortable victory for the Superchargers.

Scorecard:

  • Northern Superchargers 115-5 (100 balls): Davidson-Richards 49 (42); Perry 2-13
  • Birmingham Phoenix 54 all out (86 balls): Devine 20 (25); Smith 3-12, Wareham 3-12

This victory solidifies the Superchargers' strong position in the competition, while the Phoenix will need to regroup and address their batting frailties if they hope to turn their fortunes around in the remaining matches.
