Dan Evans Leads British Charge on Day Four of the US Open After Historic First-Round Win
Britain’s Dan Evans is set to return to action on day four of the US Open, just two days after his epic five-set victory in the first round against 23rd seed Karen Khachanov. The 34-year-old Evans made headlines by coming back from 4-0 down in the final set to win the marathon match, which lasted five hours and 35 minutes—marking it as the longest match in US Open history.
Now, with little time to recover, Evans will take to the court again for his second-round clash against Argentina's Mariano Navone. Navone, who is through to the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time, secured his spot with a four-set win over Germany's Daniel Altmaier. The match promises to be a test of endurance and skill, with Evans hoping to build on his momentum from the historic first-round triumph.
Court five will see a strong British presence throughout the day, with Evans following fellow Britons Katie Boulter and Jack Draper in their respective second-round matches.
British number one Boulter, seeded 31st, is set to face Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro around 18:00 BST. Although Bouzas Maneiro is ranked 74th in the world, she has proven herself a formidable opponent, having delivered a shock first-round victory over defending champion Marketa Vondrousova at Wimbledon earlier this year. Boulter, who came from a set down to defeat Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich in her opening match, will need to be at her best to advance to the third round.
Meanwhile, British men’s number one Jack Draper will square off against Argentina's Facundo Diaz Acosta. Draper cruised into the second round when Chinese number one Zhang Zhizhen retired due to a knee injury while trailing 6-3, 6-0, 4-0. Draper, the 25th seed, will be looking to maintain his dominant form as he continues his campaign in New York.
The British interest on court five doesn’t end there. Joe Salisbury, along with his American partner Rajeev Ram, will begin their quest for a fourth consecutive men’s doubles title at the US Open. The third-seeded duo will face off against Facundo Diaz Acosta and Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina, aiming to extend their remarkable streak in New York.
As day four unfolds, British tennis fans will have plenty to cheer for, with hopes high that Evans, Boulter, Draper, and Salisbury can continue their successful runs at this year’s US Open.
