Sanath Jayasuriya appointed Sri Lanka’s interim head coach

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya has been named the interim Head Coach of the men's national team, according to sources at Ada Derana. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Jayasuriya to lead the team through the upcoming home series against India and the Test tour of England.

This temporary appointment is part of SLC's ongoing efforts to find a permanent replacement for the recently departed head coach, Chris Silverwood. Silverwood, along with consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene, resigned following Sri Lanka's disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

During the World Cup, Sri Lanka, under the captaincy of Wanindu Hasaranga, failed to progress to the Super 8 stage. This outcome has driven the need for significant changes within the coaching staff.

The Sri Lankan team now faces the immediate challenge of a home series against the reigning T20 World Cup champions, India. The series will consist of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
