Aston Villa Secure Midfielder Amadou Onana in £50m Deal

Birmingham — Aston Villa have made a significant addition to their squad by signing Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton in a £50m deal. The 22-year-old, who played every minute of Belgium's Euro 2024 campaign, is set to bring his talents to Villa Park as the team prepares for the upcoming Champions League season.

Onana joined Everton from Lille for £33m in 2022, amassing 72 appearances and scoring four goals during his time with the Toffees. His consistent performances attracted interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, but it was Villa who secured his signature this summer.

Villa manager Unai Emery had been in the market for a defensive midfielder following the sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35m in June. Onana's arrival is seen as a key move to bolster the midfield as Villa aims to compete on multiple fronts this season.

“I’ll be playing in the Champions League again and that’s very exciting," said Onana. "We also have a manager that’s one of the best in the business and I think he can take my game to the next level.”

Onana credited Villa midfielder and Belgium team-mate Youri Tielemans for influencing his decision to join the Midlands club. “Youri played a big part in me being here because he told me lots of good stuff about the club,” Onana revealed.

With Onana's signing, Villa fans can look forward to a strengthened squad ready to take on the challenges of the Premier League and the Champions League. Emery's tactical acumen and Onana's midfield prowess are expected to be a powerful combination as Villa aims to make a mark in both domestic and European competitions.
