Liverpool Eye Juventus Winger Federico Chiesa Amidst Surplus Status

Liverpool are contemplating a move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa as the 26-year-old attacker finds himself on the fringes at the Serie A club.

Chiesa, who played a role in Italy's Euro 2024 campaign, has been deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who began his tenure earlier this summer. Despite having one year remaining on his contract, Chiesa was not included in Motta’s squad for his first league match against Como, nor was he present for the match against Hellas Verona on Monday.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has previously indicated that the club would adopt an opportunistic approach in the transfer market, which has led to the Reds showing interest in a variety of players. While interest in Chiesa is genuine, it has not yet progressed beyond the initial exploratory phase.

In addition to their pursuit of Chiesa, Liverpool are also nearing a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, the club has yet to finalize any signings under new manager Arne Slot this summer. Liverpool's attempt to secure Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi was unsuccessful, as he opted to remain with Real Sociedad.

Chiesa joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2020 for a fee that could rise to £54 million. He has since made 131 appearances for the club and was a member of Italy's Euro 2020-winning squad. However, injuries and fluctuating form have restricted his playing time in recent seasons.
