Keegan Palmer Retains Olympic Skateboarding Title in Paris

Australia's Keegan Palmer showcased his dominance in skateboarding by retaining his Olympic gold medal in the park final at Paris 2024. Palmer, who first captured the gold at Tokyo 2020, delivered a stellar performance with a score of 93.11 on his opening run, securing his place at the top of the podium once again.

The 21-year-old’s impressive display set the tone during the preliminaries at Place de la Concorde, where he achieved a top score of 93.78, a mark he maintained through to the final. Palmer’s performance underlined his status as a leading figure in the sport, following up on his exceptional showing in Tokyo.

American skateboarder Tom Schaar earned the silver medal with a commendable performance, while Brazil’s Augusto Akio claimed bronze, rounding out the podium in a highly competitive field.

In a notable moment earlier in the day, 51-year-old Andy Macdonald competed in the park heats but did not advance to the final. Macdonald, who posted a best run of 77.66, finished 18th out of 22 competitors. Despite his inability to secure a spot in the final, Macdonald's participation added a touch of veteran experience to the event.

Born in Massachusetts, USA, Macdonald qualified to represent Team GB through his Luton-born father. He is a celebrated figure in skateboarding with an illustrious career highlighted by 22 X Games medals, including eight golds, showcasing his long-standing contributions to the sport.

Palmer’s victory solidifies his reputation and continues Australia’s strong presence in Olympic skateboarding, following a successful debut in the sport’s Olympic history in 2020.
