Brentford Sign Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool in £27.5m Deal
Brentford have completed the signing of winger Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool in a deal worth up to £27.5 million, including add-ons. The 21-year-old Portuguese starlet has signed a five-year contract with the West London club, with an option for an additional year.
Liverpool will receive an initial £22.5 million for the talented youngster, with a further £5 million tied to performance-based bonuses. Additionally, the Merseyside club has secured a 17.5% sell-on clause, ensuring a share of any future profit should Carvalho be transferred again.
The deal also benefits Fulham, Carvalho’s former club, who will receive 20% of the profit from his transfer to Brentford. Carvalho originally joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022, but struggled to establish himself in Jürgen Klopp’s squad, scoring just three goals in 21 appearances.
Last season, Carvalho was loaned out to RB Leipzig in Germany, but his time in the Bundesliga was limited, mainly coming off the bench. In December, he returned to England and joined Hull City on loan for the remainder of the season. At Hull, Carvalho rediscovered his form, netting nine goals in 20 appearances as the Tigers narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs.
Brentford's acquisition of Carvalho comes after fending off competition from Southampton, who had a £15 million bid rejected by Liverpool earlier in the transfer window. The Bees are confident that Carvalho's versatility and attacking prowess will add depth and creativity to their squad as they continue to establish themselves in the Premier League.
Thomas Frank, Brentford’s manager, expressed his excitement about the new signing, stating, "Fabio is a player with immense potential, and we believe he can make a significant impact here. His ability to play across the front line and his eye for goal will be invaluable as we look to build on our success."
For Carvalho, the move to Brentford represents a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career after a challenging period at Liverpool. As he prepares to take the next step in his footballing journey, Brentford fans will be eagerly anticipating the young winger's contributions on the pitch.
