Ipswich Set to Sign Chelsea's Armando Broja on Loan with Permanent Option
Ipswich Town are poised to secure Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a season-long loan deal, with a potential permanent transfer clause included. The Premier League newcomers are set to bring in the 22-year-old Albanian international, who has been reluctant to move but has reportedly been persuaded to join Ipswich following recent negotiations.
The loan arrangement includes an option for Ipswich to purchase Broja for £30 million if they manage to avoid relegation this season. Additionally, the transfer will depend on Ipswich finalizing a contract agreement with Broja at the end of the campaign.
The deal is anticipated to be completed on Wednesday, pending a successful medical examination for the striker.
Broja's move to Ipswich marks a significant step for the club, who have been active in the transfer market following their promotion to the Premier League. Ipswich have already strengthened their squad with the additions of Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea, and several other signings including Ben Johnson, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, Sammie Szmodics, Kalvin Phillips, and Jens Cajuste.
The Chelsea forward had a challenging period at Stamford Bridge, struggling for game time since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in December 2022. Broja also faced difficulties during a loan spell at Fulham last season. Despite participating in Chelsea's pre-season tour of the United States, he has since been training with Chelsea’s 'loan group' after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Ipswich's investment in Broja reflects their ambition to solidify their position in the Premier League and enhance their attacking options for the upcoming season.
