Field Of Gold’s Future Plans Considered After Solario Stakes Triumph
Connections of the impressive Field Of Gold are weighing up a range of high-profile targets, both in the UK and France, following his commanding victory in the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown.
The Kingman colt, trained by John and Thady Gosden and owned by Juddmonte, has rapidly ascended through the ranks this season. After finishing third on his debut at Doncaster behind subsequent Listed winner New Century, he secured his first win with ease at Newmarket’s July meeting. His latest triumph at Sandown confirmed his potential as a rising star in the juvenile division.
Barry Mahon, Juddmonte’s European racing manager, expressed his satisfaction with the colt’s performance, noting Field Of Gold’s professionalism despite his inexperience. “We were absolutely delighted with him on Saturday, I thought he did it very well,” Mahon said. “He’s quite a professional horse for an inexperienced horse, and Kieran [Shoemark] was very impressed.”
Field Of Gold showed his class in the Solario Stakes, pulling clear and then responding impressively when challenged by runner-up Matauri Bay. Mahon explained, “Kieran felt that when the second horse came to him, he took off again, so he probably wasn’t doing much in front. I thought he put the race to bed nicely – he’s an exciting colt going forward.”
Looking ahead, the talented grey could next be aimed at one of three prestigious races. Options include the Royal Lodge or the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, or the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at ParisLongchamp on Arc weekend. A decision will be made after discussions with the owners and once the colt’s condition post-race has been fully assessed.
“We haven’t made a decision yet,” Mahon added. “We’ll see how the horse comes out of the race and sit down with the owners in a week’s time, but it will be one of those three options, I would imagine.”
With his striking performances so far, Field Of Gold has undoubtedly positioned himself as one to watch in the latter stages of the season, as connections consider the best route for his continued development.
